Abstract
Gold mining activities are often a source of livelihood for local communities but also pose a dilemma between the utilization of natural resources for economic gain and the need to preserve the environment, in addition to generating various complex dynamics. This research aims to analyze the impact of gold mining activities on the environmental and socio-economic aspects of the local community in Bowone Village, Sangihe Islands. The research method uses a qualitative approach to explore the meaning and experience of research subjects in depth. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participatory observation, documentation studies, and data triangulation to ensure the validity of the findings. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show the complex dynamics of gold mining activities in Bowone Village. Environmentally, although initially reported as unproblematic, significant land degradation, water pollution, and ecosystem degradation were found. From a socioeconomic perspective, benefits such as increased income, expanded social relations, increased community participation in development, and the creation of new employment opportunities were found, which overall contributed to local economic growth and community welfare.
